#61: Pleated skirts are here to stay

Hello again Fashionistas 🙂

Happy new week to all of you, filled with surprises and good vibes. I am so excited because the last couple of weeks I have been unboxing new SS17 arrivals and can’t wait to see what is coming tomorrow! This week is also a great one as I will be travelling on a new business trip. Follow my Instagram account for all the updates; my route and insights to MFW of course!

Today I will share with you a trend that has always been around, yet the last two seasons we have seen it becoming so popular among street styles. Nearly every Fashionista has adopted the trend and I have to admit that generally I was a bit reluctant at the beginning, but as I always say, I like experimenting, mixing and matching. So I eventually felt more comfortable in it and loved it.

We have seen so many different styles involving pleated skirts roaming the roads. The most popular version is the combination of pleated skirts with a logo t-shirt, sneakers and a bomber jacket either short or oversized. Many even wore a belt high on their waistline. And this season we have seen many metallic and velvet pleated skirts.

I will share with you 3 different styles of wearing a pleated skirt, othen than the one I have mentioned above, that I personally like. Before moving on though, I want to say that pleated skirts are the skirt type that can easily suit all body types, always depending on how you decide to wear it. So, if you don’t own a pleated skirt yet, I think it’s time to add one in your closets. This season (SS17) they will be available in much more forms and fabrics; i.e. Tulle, so it’s a good season to purchase one.

At this point, I have to say that I chose a plain grey jersey Gerry Weber pleated skirt, which is easy to wear from day to night, for office till a night out. It is also a skirt that it is easy to be combined with different tops to create various looks. I also want to say that in all three looks, I am wearing the same high-neck knitted top by Taifun. What I aimed for was to create a base with a basic top and the pleated skirt in order to show you how a look can easily change with just a few steps. So let’s see below 🙂

Look #1: The Romantic Casual

A bit classy, a bit military, a bit sporty and a bit romantic. I completed the look with an Apriori knit-tweed short jacket that ties on the waist in grey and red shades. I love the cut of it as well as the buttons that transform the jacket and add just the right amount of military and strictness to the look. I created a contrast to it when I chose to wear a pair of Blink velvet burgundy slip-ons, which are also a must for the upcoming season. This romanticism was also enhanced through my pink socks from Primark. In order to balance the look. I held my Cavalli Class leather black clutch bag from SHE Boutique.

Look #2: The Colourful Classy

I took it a bit further and jumped a bit into next winter’s trends (AW17-18), where we will see tweed jackets Chanel style returning. Actually, tweed jackets were and will always be in fashion, since the day Chanel introduced them to the Fashion World. I just mean that they are going to be a big trend for next season. I am wearing a vintage Apriori tweed jacket in shades of grey, fucshia (a must colour for this season), purple and mustard. I completed my outfit with my Just Cavalli black stilettos and held a stunning handbag from the Resort 2017 collection of Tricklanes.

Look #3: The Business Look

For this look, I also kept the same shoes; my Just Cavalli black stilettos. What completed the look, is the double-face Rino & Pelle cape. Leopard in shades of grey on the one side, and a more Moroccan style print in shades of grey and blue on the other side. By now, you should already know that I love garments that are 2 in 1! This time I held my Cavalli Class bag in pony and leather and it is this bag that made the ouftit more business like.

I just showed to you 3 ways of wearing a pleated skirt, however as I have already mentioned above, it all depends on your body shapes and the look you want to create. Other ways you could wear a pleated skirt are:

  • With a biker jacket and a t-shirt or a shirt tucked in. Wear sneakers during the day, ankle boots for the rockier version or stilettos for elegance.
  • With an oversized jumper – one of the looks that many have adopted, and I really like. Complete the look with a bun and a pair of Stan Smiths or any similar type of sneakers.
  • With a velvet and lace body for a special occasion. Wear a fur jacket for coverage and a pair of barely-there sandals or mules.
  • With a denim oversized jacket with appliques and embelishments for a more playful look.

How would you wear a pleated skirt? I would love to know.

Peace & Love,

G.
